Safer Travel
At Filton Avenue Primary School we operate a safer travel scheme. This means that there are rules and procedures to ensure that children travel to and from school in a safe manner. Our recommendation is that children in Reception to Year 4 should be collected by someone over the age of 18, who is registered as a safe contact on our school systems. However, we recognise that sometimes older siblings are used to walking younger children short distances, so please let us know if this is an arrangement that you will require.
Year 5 and Year 6 children may travel to and from school independently. However, if this is requested by a parent/carer then it must be put in writing using the Safer Travel permission form available below. Children will not be allowed to leave school unless written permission has been given.
If you would like your Year 5 or Year 6 child to walk home alone, please also note the following recommendations for safer travel that have been recommended by the community police:
– Children should wait until the lighter spring and summer months to begin travelling unaccompanied.
– Children should avoid travelling alone.
– The school should be fully informed about the routines of pupils travelling to school unaccompanied. This will enable us to alert parents immediately if they do not arrive.
– If a child does travel home on their own, ensure that a responsible adult is at home waiting for them.
